Cam Thanh Cooperative operates a community-based tourism model established through The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program (2010-2013), which successfully demonstrated that eco-tourism can conserve Cam Thanh’s nipa palm forest through cooperation among four stakeholders: community, companies, local authorities, and researchers.

Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable Garden — the first organic farm of its kind in Hoi An — is nestled in Cam Thanh’s countryside. Run by a cooperative of 10 households who converted to completely organic operations in 2014, the farmers produce their own chemical-free fertilizers and pesticides from natural materials.

Visitors can take cooking classes using ingredients harvested moments before, enjoy a farm-to-table lunch, or ride basket boats on the river through the nipa palm forest. Every experience connects guests directly with the land, the river, and the families who steward them.
